US Tax Returns and TIN

Hi Guys

I have had a request from my US tax agent requesting certified copies of our passports that are " Certified by the Issuing Agency" in order that my wife and I can get Individual TIN numbers after receiving income from our LLC which has an EIN already.

I have posed the question
What If we do not have passports? I await their reply.

Is this request normal if so how do I get a copy" Certified by the Issuing Agency"
I think it would be easy to get to get a certified copy from the local JP but does the passport office offer such a service.

Cheers

I would suggest that you need to get your passports. The US seems somewhat inflexible in their archaic red tape.

Ones you have a passport then you will need to get a copy notorised (as we weren't happy about sending away our passport) and then get the copy further authorised by the Dept of Foreign Affairs Apostles section.

This copy is then finally send away with an application for the ITIN.

When we were processing our ITIN application there was some doubt as the even the acceptability of the Apostles copy of the passport by the IRS. There was talk that they wanted your actual passport. This whole process is fluid.

The IRS actually sent us back the Apostatized copies of the passport.

Good luck

Been through this with opening andorran bank accounts.

1. You get the passport notarised by a notary
2. Notarised passport is then apostilled by dfat

Then you have the required documents
