Volunteering

A couple of interesting things...
Most people want the young cute pet, but some are very altruistic, specifically seeking out the least 'desirable' pet - say the older greyhound with three legs.

.

In Canada, we also care for momma cats and kittens, until they are ready for adoption. According to the SPCA, our job is to give plenty of hugs and cuddles to them & socialise them. I'd pay to do this job...it is so enjoyable.

Our last batch of kittens, one kitten had a hard time learning to walk. It was more pushing/skating around with the front legs. With us providing support (Physically and with encouragement) within a few weeks she became almost normal.

We mentioned to the SPCA, if this animal was unadoptable, to let us know.
She said these types of pets, are the first to be adopted, just as Ed Barton mentioned.

This is actually why many go and start up their own NFPO/NGO for a cause they strongly believe in. It's also what stops donations etc because people fear it is being wasted.

The Y-man

agree.

That's the reason we no longer donate money to organised charities.

Fianc?e's Sister is a vet nurse, they often get kittens that are too young for adoption, or ones with extreeme social disorders( literally found a box of kittens + mother the other day, box taped shut with very tiny breathe holes, this sort of thing makes me lose faith in humanity)
Unfortunately without temporary fostering these animals would be put down as they can't stay at the vet until of adoption age.

Used to volunteer for lifeline. That was pretty good.

Now I do similar work but get paid.

Started thinking about providing foster care for abused kids one day later on in my life. But haven't thought too much about it yet.

Go for it, it's up there with the most challenging things you'll ever do in your life. We started off doing respite care (a few days at a time to give regular carers a break), and it totally changed our outlook on how kids are raised and how important parents are in shaping kids.

I'm on the organising team for Startup Weekend Perth - I handle their PR and marketing and also mentor during the event. These are both volunteer roles as Startup Weekend is a not-for-profit. I love it! It's like Christmas for entrepreneurs.

We've had a few startups that were born at #SWPerth go on to raise funding which has been immensely satisfying.

Interestingly enough some of the surf life saving organisations are starting to charge their volunteers one off entrance fees to join the club. They are finding that once a volunteer has some financial 'buy in' to the club, they actually commit more. Obviously this works because they have a high supply of volunteers - but even with the volunteers I work with, about 50% of them inquire if there is a fee to join.

As for me, I help out one of the local service providers in town where I can. One of the issues I find is that the volunteers are continuously asked to keep committing more and more, without there being a fall back plan if volunteers aren't available.

Someones already said it - but its exactly the same as my opinion. "Someone has to do it"

ps - huge respect for those who volunteer for lifeline/crisis assistance programs.

McDonnald

I do lots volunteering at school and church. But I would like to get a franchise license for McDonnald and train young people in autism spectrum to work in the business. My dream is to set up an agency helping people with asd finding job (proper job, not folding napkin in factories).

Good on you for your generosity of spirit everyone.

Hand-over-hand is a deaf/blind group who get together once a month for a Sunday outing. They need a patient and reliable driver to pick people up, drive to venue and drop people home once a month, if anyone is interested. Unfortunately, the last driver had a stroke and won't be able to continue.

PM me for details if you like.

It may be worth while to mention a location?

I usually cut my neighbours grass every third weekend. Neighbour's health isn't the best. His missus is very grateful for the effort.
