I thought his might be a interesting metric, as networth isn't really comparable between a 20 year old and a 60 year old (or at least it shouldn't be).

While you'll still be able to acquire money at a faster rate the longer you have been investing, it will should be a closer spread.

So the formula for the NYA (trademark pending) is your networth/(your age -18).

I've made a calculator here for that purpose that you can evaluate.

And yes, I realise that it gives you a negative networth if you're below 18.

Edit: Please note, you don't have to press submit on the form. Just click out of the cell that you're in and it will give you the result. Otherwise I get the result emailed and I did not intend to make this any kind of dodgy data collection. Sorry if it appears that way!

I take it that if you're a couple then you use 1/2 net worth in calcs.

Poll options seem a little out of balance.
I'd expect 98% of genuine responses to be in the lower value half of results.
Which is not a bad thing, but the figures just look way too high.

There is no $0-$10k.

I'd fall in there or just above.

There were many many unproductive work years between me and my birth. I'm not THAT "experienced" with sentient breathing being.

I didn?t for my calculations, but I concede your point.

Yes, I know, but I had started and still had plenty of fields left to populate, so I kept going.

There is no $0-$10k.

Look at the last option. ;)

AITH has already voted and but the max is 150K => Definitely out of balance

I think lower ones needs be more broken up. For example, at the age of 40, you need more than 2 Mil networth to reach 100K

I love topics like this!

I went back and looked at all the info I submitted to my MB over the past 5 years. Then I did a big Excel spreadsheet to check my details. Yes I'm a nerd.

I found that for every year of my life by NYA seems to be linear.

eg. when I was 23 my NYA was $11k (start of my PI journey - that was my half of our saved PPOR deposit) - every year after that it's gone up by about $7k consistently.

I plotted my NYA and I'm surprised at how linear it is, although there were a couple of datapoints below the trendline which fit in exactly with when I was on maternity leave!

Anyone else have interesting observations to share?

Great poll. I'm in the $30-$50k range right now.

I suspect that within 12 months I'll be up a bracket.

I've managed to double my net worth for 7 years in a row. I figured that out only a couple of months ago. If I can keep that up I'll be a billionaire at 41.

...sounds like a challenge.

I think NYA should be formulated with a sprinkling of how good your health and happiness is.

It's all relevant.

NYA alone looks to be keeping up with the Jonses.

Agree entirely. Peace of mind, relationships and purpose along with health and happiness are also part of the wealth equation.

By the way (back to the thread question), is the age referred to in the poll chronological age or biological age?

I might use the latter and bolster my net worth per year of bio-age. :D

Well, mine isn't particularly noteworthy. Probably because I'm old & didn't start until much older than all these young guns we have here.

I am truly intrigued by this one vote of 700k-800k per year, seriously? per year every year since 18? You must have been a genius from a very early age
