Which came first- Gentrification or Star Bucks?

Gentrification came first.

Starbucks or MacDonalds or any other franchise searches for the areas with highest growth opportunities at the lowest cost.

People who will spend money (not people with lots of money).

Starbucks coffee is c*#@, that's why. Any American coffee is just as bad.
Not entirely true.

We lived in the USA for 3 years, and we are coffee fusspots.

We found some very good coffees over there; in all sorts of places. There are loads of other coffee places other than Starbucks.

That old Hollywood scene in the movies where everyone goes to the pot sitting on the warmer, or the waitress comes over to refill the cup for you in the diner...I reckon that is generally "swill" and I don't know why anyone would drink it.

Over there; it seemed like everyone was going out to buy a coffee.

We usually bought unground coffee at Costco (their range was astounding), and ground it ourselves at their in-house grinding machines, and made our own at home using a Bodem. Beautiful.

Out on the roadtrips; we would look for the more boutique type cafes who could usually put together a decent flat-white or Latte etc.

Back to the topic; Gentrification first.
