november/december interest rate thread, 2nd poll

It wasn't really a serious question, I was just pointing out a slight ambiguity. It was only after I read someones reason for picking 0.75% I realized it was for both months. Mike.

november/december interest rate thread, 2nd poll

Just curious but aren't option 2 and 3 the same? A 0.25% rise each month, or a total of 0.5%. Or, should option 2 also say total? Mike.

    Is Australia Really That Different?

I moved here from the UK in 2002. At that time houses I was looking at were around 300k and we were getting 3 dollars for 1 pound, so UKP100k. Same house today is around 750k and exchange rates are 1.75, so UKP=425k. That's a four fold increase in 7 years. The cashed up pommes are a thing of the...

csiro report $8 L Petrol affect on RE

8$ a liter in 10 years time as a worst case scenario is really quite conservative. At a current price of $1.50 and prices doubling every 7 years (I know, old school) we will be looking at $4.00 per liter just from inflation. If that's the worst case then who gives a rats ****. On the basis that...

    "Don't you know who I am ....."

Although folklore and not an actual "Do you know why I am", I like this one, This is based on an actual radio conversation between a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier (U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln) and Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland in October, 1995. (The radio conversation was...

from the battlefront - volume down

In a slowing economy rents reduce due to people feeling the pinch. As people feel the pinch they, Rent out a room, Move to a smaller cheaper property, Get back with their spouse, Move back with Mum and Dad, Etc. You can't use the same argument for increased rents as was used for...

    Buying tatics

Surely, that would only apply if you entered into an agreement. If I look in a shop window and gave them my name and address (which I wouldn't anyway), there is no way they can come after me for anything. Edit, I'll just add, to the OP, just use the agent, you know it's fair. Mike.

    Help for a newbie please!

Do people think there are less property investors due to "Guru"s? That is, they take the advice of the "Guru", get stung and never venture into the market again. Mike.

    South Australia's Mining boom

Did you see the last bit of that second article, I wonder which one of these two statistics will see the most comments. That 23% is an annualized rise of 92%, did someone mention bubble? Mike.

    Affordability calculator

Indeed they would. A 7% yield will enable you to break even. The person who paid cash will have 102,000+7000 = a 9% return. I just don't follow the gearing argument when interest rates are higher than yield unless you have good capital gains. Mike.
