    End of an Era

Actually, that date was when the Webboard (Somersoft v2) site was launched - your account would have been backdated based on data I was able to use when I launched the current version (Somersoft v3). Were you on the original version of Somersoft (v1) ?? If so, you joined well before March 2001!

This was answered in the FAQs in the second post in this thread.

How to save your Private Messages

With the upcoming archiving of the Somersoft website, you will no longer be able to log in and access you old private messages. If you would like to save your messages, you can do so easily by going to the private message section of your user control panel: ... and then down the...

Have a great trip! Pack some warm clothes - it gets cold there this time of year! Looking forward to hearing about your experiences there.

You're very lucky - I wanted to take Simon (I actually did when I first set it up) ... for anyone else I might not have been so willing to give it up :p

    End of an Era

I think any discussions about the new site are best left to the new site - or if you want to take it "offline", feel free to email me.

    End of an Era

I think you've missed the point - this has already been covered multiple times. The costs of hosting are trivial compared to the costs of managing the site. Jan & Ian have always been more than capable of meeting the hosting costs out of the revenue their business generates - no donations were...

Sydney "Farewell to Somersoft" Meetup - Bull & Bush Hotel (Baulkham Hills) 27th June

I originally decided not to create a Meetup event - since there are a lot of non-Somersoft people in the Meetup group ... but I guess it might be worth doing so.

What have the Somersoft Forums meant to you?

Even though there's already been a lot of short comments about the impact of the Somersoft Forums in the "End of an Era" thread, I thought I might start a dedicated thread for longer testimonials about what Somersoft has meant to people. I'll start off ... I joined the original Somersoft...

    End of an Era

The overall cost of hosting is trivial compared to the cost of managing the site - systems administration and community management. Somersoft (along with some of my other sites) currently utilises two Linodes - an 8GB database server and a 4GB web/app server. We had plans to add a third...

    End of an Era

Content will still be fully searchable. While you won't be able to log in to see "your" threads, you should still be able to search on threads by a specific user, so find content you posted that way.

    End of an Era

Technically, it is relatively simple to migrate content from this site to the other. Unfortunately, that is not an option - the content on this site belongs to Somersoft in its role as publisher (while the individual authors retain copyright over their own content). PropertyChat does not...

    Why are you still here?

Ever since I saw FBDO back in the 80s, I have always stayed until the very end of every movie I go to at the cinema.
