Where and what would you buy in Sydney for $500k?

A property for a PPOR.. it all depends on your lifestyle and employment situation. I work in the CBD and my girlfriend works in Glebe so we're looking at Surry Hills for our next purchase.. a trendy apartment.. possibly a 2 level warehouse conversion.

Where and what would you buy in Sydney for $500k?

:p dtraeger2k Sydney's not THAT bad.. hehe. Now what would I buy?.. a really nice place in Drummoyne/Five Dock/Canada Bay or a couple of apartments in Redfern.. but that's just general talk.. there's so much to take into consideration as rossv pointed out. :)

    After the boom, the bankrupts

I don't feel any pity for them at all. They knew what they were getting into.. hell if they didn't then they're the only ones to blame. The problem facing them doesn't seem that great does it? I'm sure they can afford to pay what they owe. They seem to be making a big deal out of it because...

    IP strategy for 10year old

That's a really nice thing you want to do for your brother, good on you :) My thoughts though: maybe set him up with a CBA Dollamite account (if they're still around!). Start him off with a decent deposit, then teach him to make small contributions every now and then. With a savings account...

    Two houses on one block?

Hi there, I could be wrong but I think you need to subdivide the land before you can build another house on it. You'd need the seperate titles for utitilities also.. i.e. gas, water, electricity, phone line, sewerage..

    Negative gearing is freaking me.

You're stressing about $1,000 over a whole year? I own a property that's negatively geared to the tune of approximately $14,000 a year... $1,000 isn't much to hold a property!

    Would you buy this property

I have a feeling that it is rented out to overseas students.. that would explain the high yield.

    Would you buy this property

Holy.. the rental return is pretty good, especially for a townhouse in Adelaide (even for a furnished one). I'd definitely be interested in finding out more... you'd have to investigate further though.. i.e. when does the lease run out, who has been renting it.. etc. For all you know they...

    The Bathroom and How

That's strange.. I thought it was quite the opposite. I've seen a few houses being built and have noticed myself that the tiling is done before the vanities/shower screens etc are put in. Even with the properties I own and ones that friends and relatives own, from units built in the 50's to...

Hi all! If this isn't posted in the right section let me know  I'm in the process of renovating my bathroom and kitchen at the moment and require the services of a tiler and a kitchen cabinet maker. I already have the tiles and cement ready for the bathroom. The wall and floor...

    The Bathroom and How

Hi yadreamin, I'm in the process of renovating my bathroom at the moment too. My advice would be to tile the whole floor and behind the mirror. You'll be thankful you did this if you ever need to replace the vanity or mirror. :)
