Painting in the humidity of Townsville

Hi Burty85 The duplex is in Cranbrook, which looked a decent suburb until I picked up last Friday's paper and the front page headline was something like, "Taxi Driver pelted with rocks, bans Suburbs" and for impact had 4 photos with the names of the suburbs on them and in large letters the word...

Painting in the humidity of Townsville

Thanks for your confidence and encouragement. The first coat looked fine, but it has been a dull day. I'll give some of the walls their final coat tomorrow. As for the tropics, I've never got so sweaty doing so little (eg a bit of cutting in, in 2 bedrooms , up near the ceiling and the...

    Tips on Door Shortening

Have had an external door sitting around for a couple of weeks. I've done a couple of coats of Cabot's exterior clear polyurethane on one side, said to my husband, "Hope I'm not going to finish this and have you turn round and want to sand and cut as it doesn't fit". Guess what? Out came the...

How soon can I paint the plasterboard?

Just had plasterboard put up over some besser block walls and new cornice put up. Any ideas on how long I need to leave it so the joins are dry. A couple of years ago I cleaned up and repainted a ceiling where the paint was peeling from the joins between sheets and over the screw holes. I...

    Glueing Fibre Cement Onto Brickwork

Have just purchased a duplex that is constructed of the big grey bricks. Think the interior would looks heaps better if plasterboard is used to cover the brick walls. Would look at putting in framing to attach the plasterboard to, also this would allow wiring and powerpoints to be added. My...

Removing lead based paint from floorboards

Thanks for the link to "i-strip". Sounds good, so just have to weigh up if its worth the dollars. Could be, as we have all door and window frames to do. The weatherboards need doing as well, but using the "i-strip" would leave me a very old lady by the time i'd be finished.

Removing lead based paint from floorboards

Thanks for the turps/tips. We have been living in the house for nearly a year and have been putting off getting the paint off, but with it showing signs of wear, it would be best to just get stuck in and get it all off. We do have young children in the house so we'll get organised to head off...

    Renovation, repair or do nothing

"Another question in my mind and should have asked is, of those who renovate, how many people actually assist with the hands on renovation whether that be the tough stuff i.e. requiring quite a bit of building knowledge or the stuff that any of us can do i.e. painting, pulling up carpets and so...

Removing lead based paint from floorboards

Looking for tips for removing lead based paint from floorboards. A room in the middle of the house that separates the lounge from dining/kitchen is 2.3 x 7m and painted a glossy mission brown, is grey in worn areas. Everywhere I read, "Don't sand lead based paint". Paint strippers dont sound...

    Really cheap 3 bed reno

Hello Mrs FHL Its always good to have a little extra money set aside for unforseen blowouts, that cause STRESS. Could you somehow use delaying tactics on the 4 car garage. Maybe do the house renos and if they eat into the garage money, have the house revalued when renovated and beautiful, and...

Property in the Bowen Basin, Qld

With regard to Blackwater, I can't see the prices heading south for some time. People are queued up waiting for rentals. What's available for sale certainly isn't pretty for the price, but very few blocks are available to build on, and building turns out to be drawn out and more expensive than...
