    Getting a Uni degree

Could be a problem, yes. A decent chunk of my high school friends went to Uni based on their marks...we were in a Public High School. I think the student will excel no matter where they are as well, though..and reverse; One of my childhood experiences was our family doctor's family - 3 boys...

I think up to end of secondary should be free, then after that, a combo of part- subsidised Uni based on marks from secondary school, plus the option of user pays for all the rest. I think if folks can smash high school due to hard work and sacrifice; reward them with some financial help into...

Unfortunately, once the subsidies are put in place, it is very hard to take them away because folks just assume it as their right, not their privilege...like a lot of other things we enjoy in our life these days..

It's a bit of a fallacy. Of course; being an excellent putter is a mandatory requirement to be in the top echelon. But; very hard to win tournaments from in the trees.

Yep; well said. This is the mentality we need to encourage in society somehow. Almost all my closer friends are golf pros and ex-golf pros; and friends of theirs and mine who we know through golf. None of us golf pros finished high school, and all of us are successful financially. Not...

No; it was not. I mentioned "and/or" several times. I know full well that education does not equal wealth. The poster said that we have "limited immigration". By that, he meant we are very selective about which levels of education, skills, professions and possibly wealth as well (although...

Yes; but would they move to Blacktown? No, of course not. The wealth gives you choice.

    Getting a Uni degree

Correct. You have proved my point; thanks. If they are higher educated and/or trained; they move to a different suburb before too long. Why would they choose to rattle around "the Noble Parks" of Australia when they can move to Camberwell? What is the point of coming half way across the...

I don't know; ask the bloke who said "immigration is limited". To me; immigration means someone who moved here to live from their Original Country of Birth. Or; have we PC'd the hell out of that one too these days? Don't mention the "I" word.

No, it is not. And; the Sudanese are spread around the Country - someone else has also posted this as verification. Re-read my posts. The Sudanese were mentioned as just the latest group in that area that has been observed. An observation of an area spanning 3 decades or more. I...

We are not arguing breakdowns of race/country, or even volumes.. We are arguing limited or unlimited immigration based on education and/or training..... I mentioned a largish number of immigrants in a lower-end suburb; which illustrates a decent level of less-educated and non-professionally...

Don't have to give exact figures at all for this argument. There are such things as trends and observation. The country of origin and race is not the issue. The issue - for my argument - is the degree of limited or unlimited immigration. By that; the inference was originally on the education...

So, for the last 10-15 years, all the Vietnamese, Indian, Sri-Lankan, Chinese, Sudanese, and many others have been hiding in other parts of Aus, and all of a sudden decided to descend on "the Noble Parks" of the Country as their preferred place to live? Gimmee a break. Please reread my posts...

Is that anecdotal, or "evidence". Incidentally; I don't reckon a big number of tradies here are making 6 figures either - otherwise; why would they flock to the mines to earn more coin? By the way; anecdotes are evidence...maybe not all-encompassing, but still part of evidence. Stats are not...

No, I am not. I am old enough to know - and have seen - a few generations of immigrant kids become adults, so I realise a Chinese looking 20 year old probably has a broader Aussie accent than me. You need to go through the areas, Terry; and not cast aspersions from a 1000 miles away.. Plus...

I would venture to say that the reason anyone makes six figures here is due to the wages levels, and/or probably working extra hours; rather than lack of competition? I think the blokes on a wage might be over the $100k if they work 6 days? The guys (tradies) who run their own businesses and...

Bzzzt. Wrong Have a quick drive around suburbs like Noble Park (my wife's folks live there, so we are there a fair bit to see them), or Dandenong, and see just how many immigrants are walking around. There are simply loads and loads and loads and loads and loads... These are two suburbs...

True. But if you have a kid who has no idea about what career to head to, and has a bit of handy-man/woman ability; it could be the path to pursue. Even if they only did it for say; 10 years and then moved to another path.

I'm sure there was a thread which had this line of conversation in it here before on SS. I reckon there are worse decisions than; get the kids into a building trade, and teach them money management and property investing and they would smash it (financially) by 40 years old.
