    High Yielding Shares Again

I must say, I'm very surprised at some of the short term/reactionary approaches several in this thread have adopted in their approach to the stock market. I wonder how they would react if they received daily prices on the values of their investment properties?

    High Yielding Shares Again

I brought this up some weeks ago and i'll mention it again. The dash towards high yielding shares will cause some problems when the music stops and those that invested in these stocks exit in search of the next big thing. Invest in good quality companies that have good market positions in...

    High Yielding Shares Again

I'll ask a question relating to high yielding shares. Given the lack of returns from other fixed income investments, and the subsequent rush to high yielding stocks particularly the banks and telstra, is there not a significant risk that the share price of these companies is being...

    High Yielding Shares Again

GFC events are not common though? Sure we could see a 10% pull back, but is that really worth stocking up cash for? Particularly when we know it's so hard to predict these things.

    High Yielding Shares Again

i'd like to think i would, but who knows. i haven't been in a situation where i've lost 40-50% of my capital in a stock market blood bath, so it's hard for me to sit here and confidently say that in such a scenario i'd be happy/willing to keep pumping money into the market. i hope i'd have...

    High Yielding Shares Again

Is there anything wrong with parking your money in a high yielding stock such as Telstra when there are so few options available for capital gain?

    High Yielding Shares Again

No doubt, but what do you do in the meantime? Sit on cash until the pain comes and then go shop for bargains? Or do you look elsewhere in the world where there is already blood in the streets, i.e. your example of Russia currently?

i won't be making financial decisions based on what you write. so dont worry about that. why were you unpopular during the GFC?

    High Yielding Shares Again

fair. this is the thing, I'm relatively early in my investment life. every thing I've read tells me to not bother trying to time the market, to not worry about the macro-economics, to not bother with short term trading etc etc how does one know when it is the right time? do you just wait for...

IV, what would be your top 5 medium to long term blue chip (or likely to become blue chip) hold recommendations?

    High Yielding Shares Again

BUT FORTUNE FAVOURS THE BRAVE?!?!? it does not favour the brave. it punishes the stupid. taking out a monster loan and throwing it all on one stock is the definition of stupid. even if it works out it is not smart, its luck. dont confuse the two. if one is inclined to speculate, go to...

    High Yielding Shares Again

There's nothing wrong with checking stock prices frequently. The only problem with it is if you are prone to get strong urges to react (buy or sell) to the daily price fluctuations.

Thanks for posting your trades China. Most people (not necessarily on this forum) are happy to post their "wins" retrospectively. I appreciate you posting your trades prospectively and your rationale for doing them. Good luck.

    High Yielding Shares Again

was this clearly evident at the time, without the benefit of hindsight? people at the time were obviously continuing to invest in these markets indicating that they didn't believe a crash was around the corner?...

    High Yielding Shares Again

This thread has been a great read. Im keen on getting seriously involved with investing in the stock market. I'm not interested in trading. Im keen on investing for the long term. As such, I'm not too concerned about such and such company being 10% undervalued etc etc. I want to buy...
