    I think it's actually very much on topic. It's a hereditary problem from caused by selective inbreeding. Not trying to have a go at you, because for all I know you could have gotten your dog from the pound, but I think it illustrates what I meant perfectly...

    Doesn't exist. If you buy from breeders, you support imbreeding, killing of "non-conforming" pups, etc. Go to the RSPCA and pick up a puppy that would get put down instead. BBC documentary here.

    Right, so I might have been a bit overzealous with my blanket statement, but I still think it holds true as a general rule that pet stores do more harm for animals than good.

    I agree with the general consensus of the the thread, go with a rescue one. Only people that don't really like animals will buy them from a pet shop. As for breeds of dogs that are intentionally inbred, I'm not a big fan of that either. More info on that...
