5br house + granny flat

Hi there

Are there any obstacles to:

*Buying a 5 bedder
*Splitting it into two, self-contained residences (ie 2 bedder + 3 bedder) with own kitchens, toilets etc
*Building a 2 bed self-contained granny flat out back
*Renting all 3 residences individually

What street frontage would you need? Would the house in the middle need to have its own access from the front yard to the backyard? Is it possible to have 3 different electricity and water meters? Are there any other obstacles such as council approvals?

Granny flats are referred to as Secondary Dwellings. So you can have 2 x rentals from 1 property. You can't get council approval for more than that.
