Australia's future

An existing thread frowns on whinging so I am trying very hard to set the tone of this thread as a constructive approach to remedy the ills besetting governance in Australia.

I wish governance in Australia will be more visionary as well as competent.

How I wish:

1 Australia invest in finding a new energy source or continually upgrade green alternatives without paying overseas for their domestic efforts to cut back on carbon emission. If carbon emission is a global problem then it should be a global united effort, voluntarily acknowledged and not needing to be paid to do so. Instead of channeling 'blackmailed' funds overseas it should be used to invest in new technology and infrastructure to maintain domestic energy stability and sustainability. In this case, charity begins at home with benefits accruing globally.

2 Foreign aid should be contingent upon renunciation of jihad ideology as well as respecting the core values of Australia. What are the core values of Australia?: pluralist democracy, equitable Constitutional judiciary, non discrimination, equal gender treatment. Aids given overseas, whether material or military supports, can end up sadly as misadventures with unclear goals when countries lapse back to where they came from upon withdrawal of Australian aid or worse still the funds are used to promote practices inimical or contrary to the core beliefs of Australia. Can an Australian travelling overseas identify with pride that his tax dollars have funded the visible practices and outcome in those aided countries?

3 Immigration policies while retaining a humane categority should qualify whether the beliefs of applicants are compatible with the core values of Australia specified above. Applicants who have deeply held beliefs in jihadic doctrines, inhumane punishments for offenders, overturn of democratic governance with autocratic rules, aggression against other peaceful races should be excluded. They should be steered towards other nations matching their beliefs.

4 Water policy to ensure stability of supply in existing population centres and for expansion. With the current cycle of wet seasons, the problem of water supply seems to have receded a bit. However, it remains captive to the vagary of climate changes. It seems parts of Australia receive high rainfall whereas other parts receive little. There may be an argument about who should be paying for the benefits of water infrastruce but it is a national issue to ensure supply. Just like roads and communication networks, supply of water should be guaranteed or its lack will impede the growth of the nation. It can be implementation by piecemeal but there should be a strategic national network of pipelines and reservoirs to encircle Australia to ensure stability of water supply and extend liveable land.

These are just some thoughts of where visionary government can lead this country.
