Bbq

I'm guessing they've been pumping the TV advertisements for this lately, the wife told me yesterday that we should buy one. :p

Does anyone on SS own one? Anything particularly amazing about it compared to any other bbq?

I'm trying to understand the same.

They look great - the portability/size thing is cool because it's easily moved around but I just can't see how it's going to outperform my good ol' $200 kmart bbq that's moved houses as many times as I have :)

My wife wanted to get me one (webber q) for fathers day/birthday but I couldn't justify it.

Cheers

I have the small one, bought as present for Mr EN710. E10 I think?

Fit the purpose for 2 people and so far i like it. Can't compare with other bbq since I never had one :p
note that Weber is made for you to cook with hood closed (so meat has more flavour rom the fat burns/ smoke. He researched it extensively before telling me he want that one, so I assume it's good

We have the family Webber and have used regularly over the past 5 years and love it.

It has no cold areas so the whole plate area is available for cooking and we often cook for 8-12 people on it with no problems.

I bought one last year, love it. I bought from a BBQ shop on special. I have the gas connector on the alfresco and wanted one with the temperature gauge Masters only sell the basic models. I waited for the regular 20% off days at Masters and bought the cover and stand then.

Yep owned the small one first, then bought my PPOR and got a family-q.

Best cooking BBQ ever, very efficient and super hot which makes it easy to clean.

Be careful buying from BBQs galore. They aren't a certified dealer (or whatever the term might be) and push the Zeigler and Brown BBQ's as they have some kind of vested interest in them.

Also amazingly good for large pieces of meat if you get a Weber Q big enough.

If you want a high hood model with a thermometer you need a specialist dealer -helps when doing bigger roasts.

Personally I just have Weber kettles, including a Performer with gas starting. With a charcoal chimney these get going as fast as a gasser and you get much better flavour and ease of use and cleaning when smoking a big cut. I see a lot of people cooking on gas hot plates and I wonder why they don't just cook inside? If you're going to BBQ you may as well do it properly. That means getting a decent food thermometer and knowing your smoking from your roasting and grilling for different cuts. And knowing the internal temps that food should be cooked to depending on how you like it.

If you want to know more about BBQ Google the Australian BBQ forums.

I reckon a Komodo Kamado is in my future!

We have the largest one, and it's great. Food tastes good, very efficient on gas.

When shopping around, be aware that there are 2 models of each type. The models that only licensed Weber dealers sell have better electronic ignition and taller lids with a built-in thermometer (look for the thermometer). Other places have models with lower lids, click-to-light peizo ignition and no thermometer.

Even if you pay full retail you'll be very happy.

^ yep, we have the big one and have had for 5 years. Will go 350+ degrees under the hood, that's proper hot....blows the standard 4 burner stainless steel and Bunnings specials away. Well designed and good quality. Cooking area is much larger than you would think. Wouldn't buy anything else.

I have a WeberQ and its great!
Just be careful with the electronic ignition. While its fantastic, it can fall out if you're not careful (its designed to taken out easily to replace the battery).

WebberQ is the best.

Cooks roasts better than oven.
Hoter and more flavour than regular BBQ thanks to the lid
Makes the meat really tender
Best crackling ever. We never cook pork roast in the oven any more.
Cooks a mean pizza too with a pizza stone.
Good in summer when you don't want to use the kitchen because the oven heats the whole house. It does everything.

You will never want another BBQ. we have the medium one. No cool spots on the grill so you can use one smaller than u think. it's really efficient.

I've heard good things about the WeberQ family.

We have the Weber Genesis - large 3 burner model with hood and side burner. Fantastic.

Like the WeberQ, it gives even heating across the entire cooking surface, so there's no wasted space. Also, the gas dials give good control over cooking temperature - along with a sensitive thermometer built in, I can cook at a fairly precise temperature when roasting or doing pizza.

I cook roasts, pizza, even do scrambled eggs, bacon and hash-browns on it.

I have a friend who had one of these (not sure if it's the same brand) - always had tasty BBQs. Dumb phuck brother cooked one day and turned it to high and closed the lid. Ate dinner, returned and the thing was on fire - melted all the plastic-y bits. Not sure if it was due to extreme heat with the lid down or a no name brand BBQ. Beware!
