We always pay straight away. However, we have used the same contractors for 20 years. That's how we keep the good ones. They never let us down, and if something is not right, they come back straight away at their own expense. The plumbing never leaks, the electical is always perfect, the tiling impecable, and everyone else is the same. Paying them straight away, for us, seems to be the key to keeping good tradesmen around. They will drop everything for us. I have heard them talking about the lawyers that they have done work for and payment would be say $300, they don't want to go back and do their jobs because they have to wait 3 mths for payment of a lousy $300.
