Buying in Alameda, San Francisco

Not sure where to put this post but I recently went to a farewell party for 2 friends who have bought (and now moved to ) Alameda in San Francisco.

I'm pretty sure they won't mind me posting details of the type of property they bought (although not the one they bought).

Top floor of a duplex asking $499k:-

Was just in San Fran last month. I didnt care too much to even look at property, but what a great place! One of my places to re-visit when I go back.

Certainly not the kind of property that I will be buying in USA. Looks like silly Sydney pricing.

I think you are paying for the location. It looks like a very good area to live.

I have my own memories of San Francisco. I was married there. 24.4632 years ago.

If I was going to invest in a place I'd like to know a lot more than a single property listing. There's a lot of places in the US which have been hurting badly.

The US as a market is quite different from Australia. There have been some very good threads in recent times, mostly about single markets (Atlanta and Vegas) bu. with some principles which would apply anywhere in the US.
