Convert pdf files to cad

If you have cad drawings in pdf format and can't get a hold of the dwg copies for whatever reason there is a solution.

Once opened simply drag and drop your pdf onto the screen then go:

File>Save As>Save As Type>DXF

This will create a .dxf file which you can open in Autocad and play around with (or your drafty). Mind you it will be all single lines and even the text and dimensions. The scale will be wrong as well so you would need to scale the drawing and use one of the dimensions as a reference (ask your drafty).

Sorry to any draftys that get their pdfs copied as a result of this but I've found the ability to pinch drawings from clients that refuse to give up cad files far outweighs any drawbacks. For eg I had a survey pdf of a 10ha site that I couldn't get cad files off (not the clients fault but their old consultant that did the work wouldn't give it up). I was able to use this and instantly have all the contours for the site to do some accurate stormwater modelling.

You should also apologise to any drafty stuck with the task of cleaning up the junk file output by this program. I'd be charging a bucket-load.

I have spent countless hours cleaning up rubbish that it spits out. Continuous plines are great, anything else is a mess. It's not so bad with resi/structural stuff though it's generally all straight lines.

+ it beats starting from scratch

i dunno - i'd prefer to start from scratch and retro-draw the dimensions as laid out on PDF.

good luck BIM modelling anything from this program.
