Ending a lease in Qlds

Hello there,

I live in Melb, but have an IP in Queensland.

It is currently tenanted, on a one year lease, that runs out in January 2007.
We wish to remove the current tenants, so are not planning on renewing their lease in January.

Our managing agent tells us that we only have to give 14 days notice to the tenants!!!!
(though he says if they were on a periodic lease we would need to give 2 months notice)
I find this quite shocking. How is anyone expected to find another place to live in only 2 weeks? How can this be legal?

Is this correct?

Thanks
Lily

Yes its correct.

However if they fall into a Periodic lease you must give them 2mths but they only have to give you 14days.... go figure why that's fair.

Thank you Jacque and David, for your useful answers to my question.
Much appreciated.

I can hardly believe that, legally, I only need to give 2 weeks notice. Very strange. Makes me feel glad I am not renting in Queensland.

Thanks again,
:)
Lily
