Fire sprinklers?

I'm currently thinking of buying a unit in a meduim sized complex.
The building is U shaped. In the middle is a paved courtyard.
I noticed the there are sprinklers above the windows on the ground floor,
1st floor and top floor (see attached). This is only in the courtyard area.

I have never seen this before anywhere and was wondering what on earth
its for. Fire safety? (retro fit). It just seems strange to me.

Any help would be appreciated.

they are called window drenchers & appear retrofitted due to the exposed pipework

a bca report must have been done at some stage (a extension or refurbishment?) and a bca consultant, certifier would have determined them necessary under the bca

could be the windows are along a deemed exit path? or the units facing each other are to close together?

its all about people getting out of the building safely during the event of a fire

Al least one perosn knows about them!

The 2 walls are about 12ft apart and the courtyard leads only to the
small rear yard containing the clotheslines.

As I said, I have never seen them in any building of that age (15yrs),
even younger or older.

Looking at the strata plan, the building has not been renovated or extended.

Should I be concerned at all?
