Inserting Pics into Post

I have been using attachments in my posts to date but was wondering how to insert the pic straight into the post?

Can someone please explain?

Thanks, Ian

When I insert pics into my posts, I use the following syntax:

[ img ] http://www.blah.com/image.jpg [ / img ]

Just remove all the spaces. Oh, and the image has to already be online somewhere for that method to work.

As a fitting example, I'll insert the 'insert image' image :)

insertimage.gif

When you post reply, you should see this icon in the tools area above where you type your post. If you click it, it'll prompt you for the (online) location of the image you want to include in your post.

Thanks mate. So the image MUST be on a website to achieve the insertion? Is there no other way? Can the image be somewhere else on this site - in the gallery for instance?

Okay, well the URL that you put into your post has to point to the actual IMAGE file (such as JPG or GIF). So what I did, I clicked your link above, then I right-clicked on the image and clicked Properties. That told me where the actual JPG file was located on the server:

http : // www. somersoft .com/forums/gallery/data/500/medium/Pozieres_cabin_fire_2008_Kitchen.jpg

(without the spaces)

then you just need to put the IMG tags around it:

[ img ] http :// www. somersoft. com/forums/gallery/data/500/medium/Pozieres_cabin_fire_2008_Kitchen.jpg [ / img]

(without the spaces)

Makes this:

Pozieres_cabin_fire_2008_Kitchen.jpg

You can either type the [ img ] stuff manually, or you can use the aforementioned insert image icon which will prompt you for the JPG location.

It must be on a website, however that website can be somersoft.com :)

If you've got an image on your computer that you want to put into your post but it isn't online, first upload it to the somersoft gallery (I haven't done that yet so someone else will have to help you there), then find out the URL of the file that you have uploaded by right-clicking on the image and choosing Properties. Then use that URL within the IMG tags in your post.

Click on the "Gallery" link at the top of the page, Then on the link "Upload photos". Follow the prompts.

I've changed the big picture for a smaller copy.

The original ref was http://www.somersoft.com/forums/gallery/data/500/Pozieres_cabin_fire_2008_Kitchen.jpg and it was over half a meg. When I viewed just the picture, it looked OK though so I'm not quite sure why it showed so big.

I changed it to
http://www.somersoft.com/forums/gallery/data/500/medium/Pozieres_cabin_fire_2008_Kitchen.jpg which is the medium sized picture in the gallery.

I'd suggest that you perhaps need to compress it with picture editing software before loading it into the gallery.

I'll try one of my pics now. :D

[ IMG ] http :// www. somersoft .com/forums/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=3326 [ / IMG ]

Yep, I've added some spaces into what you posted so you can see what's wrong. You have linked to a PHP file, which is usually a web page. Need to link to the JPG, which is just the image.
