Instant extension

Just saw this in the Property Insider:

A New Zealand based company has come up with an ingenious and inexpensive way for families to extend their home without lifting a hammer. For around $120 per month the company will install a 10 square metre moveable cabin in your yard, which you can then use for whatever you like. The perfect solution if you want a home office, guest accommodation or even a place to put the teenagers when you want them out of the house!

No details included on who the company is or where they are! (I'm following up)

I'd imagine that you'd have to consider the local council planning regime as to whether this would require planning permission as some kind of temporary structure (which could become permanent).

Interesting concept, however. I'm sure you would have to get council approval, especially if it became a long term option.
Is anyone doing it successfully in Oz yet I wonder?

Hi I was just talking to a friend about a similar strategy of buying a small demountable and using for added student accomodation in NZ. My unsderstanding is that if the structure is under a certain size in NZ I think 45m2 at least in some council areas you don't need council approval.

I have noticed a lot of adds for second hand shipping containers available for hire or sale. Get the old angle grinder out to make a couple of windows and 'bobs your uncle'. Instant home office/guest accomodation

Instant extension?

For a moment there I thought it was another Spam site offering me cheap Viagra! :D

$120 month sounds like an okay deal. Cheaper than a caravan park/motel if you have relo's visiting for an extended period..
I wonder what minimum term is?
Maybe you could even rent it out, for $400 month :)
