Interstate property quick valuation

Hi,
I'm looking at buying an inv property in another State. Mindful that stuff can sell very quickly. A few questions for youse: what is the best way to get a quick property valuation? Also, in the event a property goes to auction, what is the best way to bid if you can't physically be there? ...and what do people see as the essentials in researching a property and protecting your investment? For example, getting the property valued, landlord insurance etc seem to me to be basics in the process. What are the other fundamentals in your experience(s)?
