Land Tax

Is it normal to pass on your land tax costs to the tennant? We just received a new lease for our business and the landlord has included a charge of $5k for land tax.

Such a great post dazzling why delete it?

1. Have you ever read your Lease ?? Obviously, otherwise i wouldn't have picked this up. It is a renewal of our lease and it wasn't there previously.

2. Do you actually look like your moniker up in the left hand top corner ?? I don't think so, hey are you on school holidays at the moment?

In reply to the question:

If you are talking residential - No it is not usual to pass on Land Tax.

Not everyone pays land tax, its only when you reach the limit of holdings that you pay it, what I do is apportion across holdings and include in the rent.

You can't pass on land tax in Qld, depending on the lease all else can be passed on but state law won't let you pass that one on.

It was bought in to raise revenue at the expense of land lords and not tenants, I expect that as commercial property is bought and sold on a yield it just meant gross rentals increased at the next market review.
