Managed funds

I currently have around 20k saved for an investment property. Obviously that will only cover my deposit and mabe a little bit more. But while i save the rest, woul it be worth offsetting 2-5 grand in managed funds??

It depends on your timeframe - if it's just a year or so I wouldn't bother as these things tend to be more long term. If you're looking at 5 years it might make more sense.

Think you will find most Managed funds estimate a 7 year time frame.
For quick gain think you have missed the boat recently.
Got a 30%gain last 12 months on one geared shared fund.

Managed funds all have a suggested investment time frame in their disclosure statements. They tend to be medium to long term investments.

If you're looking for something under about 3-4 years, the general recommendation would be to use a term deposit.

When I was saving for my first deposit we did quite a bit of share trading. It worked well for us at the time, but it's very risky and you can loose it all.

Now days we keep most of our spare cash in offset accounts or redraw facilities.
