Just tinkering with the search indexes, and I found that the following words were the most commonly used on the forum:

75% of the times I do a search, there's at least one search with "Navra" in it.

Is that just Steve constantly checking to see if he's been mentioned?
 
A bit of "ego surfing" huh ?

Actually I think I remember seeing the word "Steve" at about #70 in the most frequently used words. Interestingly "Michael" was more frequent - at around #40 or so.

WHY? Why would you search for property on a property investment fourm?

That's like searching for water in the ocean!!!!

I'll ditto what Geoff said about steve. Someone's always searching for him...

Isn't there an old tech term 'garbage in, garbage out'. You'll get overwhelmed with responces if you search for 'property' here.

A little search engine nouce is required

PS: Am I correct in thinking that the word property comes up zillions of times in the text of the forum, rather than being the actual word searched?

I think Sim means that these are the most used words in posts on the forum - not words most commonly searched for.

Well, don't bother searching for "property" - I discovered the "bad word" list that vBulletin list uses to ignore words that are too common - and I added property to it along with a heap of other words that won't do you much good to search on.

Oh, I also lowered the minimum word length to 3 characters, so you should be able to search on ATO and GST and other TLAs now too.

Note that the search engine is not terribly smart - if you search for TLA, it won't find TLAs nor will it find T.L.A. - however searching for TLA* should find TLAs as well as TLA.

I will keep an eye on the index sizes and do a bit more tuning if it becomes a problem. I also decreased the maximum word size that gets indexed down from 20 characters to 15.

Unfortunately, search terms are only cached for a day or so, and aren't recorded - so I can't tell you which are the most common search terms.

However, I can tell you which search terms found us from web search engines such as Google...

Hey, I thought that was Sim was saying- don't blame me if he was ambiguous (or something)!

Can't tell you - that word is in the "bad words" list (meaning words we really don't want to track because there are too many of them) - so word counts and indexes for that word aren't kept.

Sorry.

By the way, there are about 2.4 million entries in our search index (mapping non-bad words to posts) - just thought you might be interested. Naturally this number grows with every single post (more with mine since my posts are often quite long :D )
