Most Dangerous Roads in the World

Been watching this show, I am never going to complain about our roads in Australia.

I watched a tourist bus driver empty the bus to lighten the load, then he tried to manoeuvre it around a bend only to tragically slip slide down the cliff, lost his life

Had to post it, and I thought the roads heading up to the mountains in Switzerland were scary as hell, nothing over this.

Its the conditions why its so dangerous...there are numerous mudslides and tumbling rocks, and small waterfalls occasionally rain down the cliff sides.

Views to die for though...approx. 200-300 each year.

Closer to home is one often missed. Skippers Canyon Rd in Queenstown NZ is one for the brave / foolish. Hirecars are banned (they get half way when it gets really hairy and cant back out). The turnoff is literally 5km out of town down a unmarked trail beside the ski fields

Those travelling to Queenstown should do a half day tour combining jetboats and the gold mining ghost towns of long ago with the trip in a small minibus. You will not regret this trip. When the snow falls its a tracked vehicle. Almost all year round.

I think Top Gear drove along this road, it was the only time I have seen Clarkson speechless :)

My daughters have both ridden bicycles along this road. And yes, bicycles also go over the edge. It is one of the main backpacker activities for Bolivia.

Daughter on Skype from Bolivia. "Please tell Mum to leave the room. I want to tell you something". And of course Mum knows what's happening.

I cycled the one in Bolivia as a backpacker way back in 2006, amazing day, although sad to see the guys sitting on the corners waving flags to passing motorists to warn them of the edges, as these are the guys who have lost loved ones on the road.

Haha if I'm honest the day was cloudy and misty as hell, so couldnt see the 1000m sheer drops off the end of the road....

Not sure if that made it better or worse!

the day i did it was something like this...

whereas on a clear day it would be like this
