I do a lot of work with PLC's (Programmable Logic Controllers) and unbeknownst to many, you can get them to fully automate and run an entire industrial plant and low and behold, it's all done with ones and zeros.

Hey - I did my third major in Process Control, and spent the last few years playing with them on a Pilot Plant in the Pilbara. Wish we could have automated the entire plant, though budgetry constraints meant that we only had a few discrete processes that were automated.
Synths are just like PLC's that run with really fast loop times, and pretty full on control and filtering options. Oh, and the generally sound nicer too
