Newport & Surrounds for a PPOR?

Hi there,

I'm looking to move closer to the city for work, renting out my current PPOR (that should cover my credentials to post on the investor forum! :rolleyes: ).

Can anyone please give me an updated review of Newport and surrounding towns for a young family?i'm fromthe south east suburbs, so a little nervous bringing my young family of 3 young boys into the inner city!!

I have 550k to spend, and need the biggest place possible. I am up for a cosmetic Reno to start.

Any help/insight from the locals would be appreciated greatly!,

Newport is a tricky one, it's a very industrial suburb and has the large train depo, the old quarry and numerous manufacturing zones that you'd want to stay clear of.

There's a nice little pocket between Challis and Jack Street. Here you can sometimes buy original 3 bedroom homes on about 300sqm for $500 - $600k. You'll need to put in some elbow grease though; and they don't come around too often.
