We are buying a house that is tenanted. Their lease expires in 2 months. We dont need the house before then so agreed they could stay on. Was just thinking of making this an informal agreement whereby we give them 2 months notice to vacate. However, after reading another post about the vendor not vacating I am now deciding to have a signed formal agreement. I dont want another fixed term lease, but month to month. Could you please clarify if they sign a month to month agreement (which takes effect after their original lease runs out) willl we only have to give them 2mths notice?

Yours is a slightly different arrangement- the thread you've mentioned is probably the one where the owner isn't moving out.
Check your state's rules and regulations about notice to vacate, how long you must give and how it must be given. It may be enough just to deliver a letter informing the tenant, but check it out.
If there was a PM managing the property it will be their responsibility to do so for you, they will be the ones who supposedly know the law. But you should read up anyway.
