Replace timber ceiling in study due to odour

Hi,

I need to repair/replace a timber ceiling in my study due to damage by rodents. A family of rats made a smelly nest in the cavity between the timber ceiling and corrugated iron roof. Whilst I have cleaned out the debris, I am left with an atrocious smell that permeates the timber. The over-all dimensions of the ceiilng are 2.17m x 3.13m. Each timber panel is approximately 0.08m wide.

Could someone please advise on the following:

* What type of tradesperson could replace the timber panels ? Should I be talking to a buiilder, carpenter or home handyman? How much do you think it might cost to replace the timber?
* Alternatively what would be the approximate cost of installing a villaboard/gyprock ceiling? Should I get a quote from a plasterer?

Many thanks,

Taylor

Are you sure it is not a dead rat somewhere you cannot see. We had a rat die in the wall cavity between our bedroom and bathroom. The smell made us gag, but it did go away and we only noticed a faint odour on a really hot day, for the next year or so.
