tax q

OK bit of a dumb question but when your spouse is working do the tax office add the wages of yourself and your spouse together to work out the tax paid or are do they see you as individuals?

Thanks.

Individuals, Pablo.

Some countries do allow you to add spouses' wages together and average them; this is called "income splitting", which we don't have.

Having said that, there may be rebates etc available in consideration of spouses. I think I got a low income spouse rebate once because I am very poor compared to my wife :)

Cheers,

I got a $1,200 low income offset for the past financial year because I'm very poor. They didn't even need to compare me with anyone.
