I spent a good 10 years procrastinating before buying my first place because I was absoulutely TERRIFIED of spending that much money on ANYTHING. I eventually got married and felt like we couldn't just keep renting forever. So our first PPOR was:

4 br, renovated federation house
Willoughby (Sydney)
$1,450K
Bought in Oct 2009
Have no idea what it is worth (probably similar to what we bought it for), but like it because it has lots of windows and it's sunny inside. :)

PPOR 2004, 4 Bedroom Townhouse $332,000 (Today $600,000)

IP1 2009, 3 Bedroom House $390,000 (Today $550,000)

Both located north/east suburbs of melbourne.

My first property was IP,

Purchase Year: Land- 2007 Building- (completed) 2008
Type: 3 bedroom 2 living 2 bathroom single garage 300sqm land
Cost: $210,000
Owe: $170,000
Rent: $300 p/w
Location: Smithfield SA

My first PPOR

Purchase Year: Land- Dec 2009 Building: completed next month yippe!
Type: 4 Bedroom, 2 Living, 2 Bathroom double garage 375sqm land
Cost: $342,000
Owe: $342,000
Location: Blakeview (Blakes Crossing) SA

Erskineville, Sydney. Can't remember the year. $57K.

Erko was a very dodgy suburb back then. If I came home at night, I would walk down the middle of the street expecting to have to run at any minute - I'm not a big bloke. Nothing ever happened, but I was always ready.

Next PPOP was Annandale - pretty undesirable. We had friends living in Balmain and I think they felt a bit sorry for us.

Then it was Hurstone Park. Not undesirable, but unknown and definitley not sought after.

Now it's Marrickville. People thought we were mad to move there, but now the prices are nuts.

You've certainly got the gift! Where are you looking next, so I can follow you? :p

Purchased a block of land in 2000 for $58,000.
I was told i was crazy because you could get land for less 20 klm away.
Built a project style house in 2001. Total cost about $200,000 give or take.

Mmm what was the size of the lot and what was the location? What type of house did you build e.g. single brick and how many bedrooms etc etc?

First I.P

First i.P
We bought a small 2brm Unit in Highgate Hill Brisbane Just behind the Expo Site in 1989. Paid $42k for it. We we're very young and naive in the ways of property at the time and looking back it paid for itself hands down but we didn't understand the way property worked and took the wrong advice from people who didn't understand the property market and sold it 6 months later for $64k. We thought we we're hero's at the time! Wish we still had it now though and it.

What: 2 Bedroom double brick unit
Where: Greenslopes, Brisbane
When: 1994
How much: $95,000
I had saved a $14k deposit and got about $100 or $200 reduction off stamp duty for being a first home buyer.

My first was a new PPOR- $55,000 in Oakhurst (near Plumpton). It was the only thing I could afford. My friends thought I was crazy (when I explained where it was).
1986
Sold my car to get the deposit.

Sold it 7 years later for $122,000.

Moved to the Hills. Was scared of the MASSIVE loans. Only 7 years earlier I borrowed $50K now I was looking at borrowing over $100K.

Bought a house for $217K with 40% deposit. :(

It doubled in 7 years.
