When I was working full time we had a combined household income of over 250k. I'm in law, he's in finance. Both ball breaking mid life crisis inducing industries.

We invested our money wisely at that point so we could have time outs when we need a break.

id love thoses toys. but fortunately ive seen many people make that mistake and have learnt from it. ;)

Very clever ...soooo where do YOU want to be ? What is your ideal day to day life? That is the income you need to aspire to.

And my post in it......
(My opinion is that as long as you have a destination, it really makes no difference what the journey is, as long as you get there. It is like saying there is only ONE way to get from Brisbane to Sydney. Umm no... Some people might fly (some economy, some first, some virgin some qantas) some might drive (new England hwy, or Pacific?). Some might catch a bus etc tec it doesn't matter, they all get to their destination.)

whats with this 'over' crap? can you not take the 2 minutes to work out what your income is?! Or are you taking into account 'hopes and dreams'?

I'm in IT and earning about a third of what you are. I'll send you my account details and you can even up the playing field on a monthly basis.

And I'll be getting back into IT starting at the bottom again, on a much lower salary than you. Therefore...

It makes no difference what the journey is?? Mate, life is the journey, death is the destination. Life is all about the journey!

My quote regarding "the journey" relates to the many ways of reaching your goals.

Trey has now posted that his ideal life at this point would be to surf, drink beer and have dinner with girls :). There are many ways of reaching that goal...resi IP's , comm IP's, developments or even shares :). Many journeys to the destination :)

3 words. Oil and Gas.
You don't even need to be smart & we make miners look poor :D (that's a joke people)

I purposely moved from corporate finance to energy/minerals for the income. An added bonus is working 6months a year.

I voted using only my working income, which is well over $200k

I am a specialist IT consultant.

+1 and +1 for both. Become a Geological IT specialist. Niche field but it's office based and kinder on the lending criteria. You can do sales for the big software development firms (Landmark, Schlumberger, Paradigm) or tech support onsite or workflow design or DBA or software development or .......
Send the kids to do a Geology degree then 4th year in Reservoir Engineering or Petroleum Engineering. For more bang for buck double degree in IT and Geo is not bad.
