Are ceramic tiles no good?

I've had a lovely tenant leave my IP with wax stains and candle burns in the carpet, so it's time to go tiles. I went to my local discount tile shop who doesn't sell ceramic floor tiles anymore. They said they crack and damage easily so they only stock porcelain now.

Is ceramic that bad? I have an old style tiler who still does the sand/cement job so he doesn't want me to buy porcelain tiles, hence my not going down the porcelain path.

I'm wondering if ceramic are that bad or if the tile shop guys just wanted me to buy their stock.

Porcelain is modern, come in large sizes, are not glazed. Ceramic tiles are a clay base with glazed finish, smaller sizes or dimensionaly unstable. Tell your tiler to lay a bed, let it go off then direct glue porcelain or ceramics.

It is harder to lay porcelain (takes a good tradie). Porcelain is heavier due to the size.
