PMI has an interesting calculator where you can enter a postcode and it will work out what percentage you can borrow.

'Safe' places like suburban Perth have a flat 95% for $500k. Rural, mining and agricultural towns have a scale where you can borrow lesser amounts at 85, 90 and 95%. But they seem to be OK with towns as small as 1000 people (and dropping).
But try typing in inner-city postcodes like 3000, and you get the following error message:
'Thank you for your request.
We are unable to provide the requested information for this area on the Location Wizard.'
