Canberra Property Investors

Hi,

A question to those with property in the ACT. Is it standard practice to have the tenant pay in arrears? My brother in law who has relocated to Adelaide and decided to lease out his Canberra property has been told by the agent that the rent is paid to him fortnightly in arrears.

Sounded odd to me - I have my IP's in Victoria and standard practise is for the tenant to be charged a month ahead.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Yeah usually 2 weeks rent up front and 4 weeks bond paid up front by tenants then released to the owner in the middle or end of the month.
