cost-benefit

Howdy,

I've been discussing trusts and their various incarnations with a friend. He is single and has a few IPs already in his own name.

He asked me a question that I couldn't answer, so I thought I'd put it to the forum.

He wanted to know what the breakeven point was where the costs of having IPs in a trusts were less than the benefits?

He is aware of the asset protection benefits, and the income/loss distribution benefits should he get married & have kids.

At this point he is most interested in the tax benefits should he sell an IP at some point in the future (or not) on the assumption that he is still single at that time.

cheers, Tony

Dear Tonyd,

For me trusts are the only way to go if you are serious about property or business.

We could discuss this till the cows come home but that is why you pay for professional advice. See other posts for more input on the trust side.

However a site that you may find useful with regards to trust's is Chris Batten's site, although I don't recommend his services.

Support the people who support us and the site. In this case especially DaleGG.

Cheers,

Sunstone.

Thanks Sunstone & investor.

I've actually already pointed him to Chris Batten's site and Dale's manual.

A local guru told him that a trust was not appropriate in his circumstances (purely from a tax viewpoint). I told him that the guru's information was out of date now that these hybrid trusts exist. He is not convinced, but he is curious to learn more.

He will no doubt come to his own conclusions when he has done some more investigations.

cheers, Tony
