Excel Calculation - Percentage of a total

I need to do a calculation in a spreadsheet but didn't work the way I tried it. It sounds like it should be simple and probably is to some here but I can't do it.

I have a figure in a field (it is a total of other fields) and I want to work out 75% of that total. so.

30 Total

22.5 (75% of the total of 30.

So the calculation I need is to get the 22.5 above.

Anyone know??

Answer:

= Cell ID (where the 30 sits) x 0.75

The formula might look something like:
=(A4*75)/100
Assuming the total is in cell A4.
You could also put your 75 in another cell and reference that in the formula rather than hard code it.
eg =(A4*C2)/100

Thanks you two!! I tried the Proppy one but came up with that #NAME thingy (but that is likely to me something I did wrong!) but the first of the two of Rob's worked fine.

I did google to see if I could work it out first but hard to know how to ask what you want for something like this!

I love learning new excel calcs I can use over and over. I have been on excel courses but I think you have to really use it and use it to learn. I am in awe of people that can do lots of fancy things with it.

The formula might look something like:
=(A4*75)/100

Yes, Rob's way will work. You can do:

=A4*0.75
=A4*75/100
you don't need the brackets in this case
