Filling in walls to make a new room

Hi All,

Hopefully someone can give me advice.
We are going to block 2 walls in a brick house to make it into a bedroom.

Query: should we do it in brick with render
or
Hebel blocks & render.

Our concern is noise levels within the bedroom.

Any suggestions?

Vicki

Pay a ceiling fixer, fill with acoustic insulation and do a framed and lined wall.

Faster, cleaner and easier for services to go in.

If you block up an existing brick opening using timber and gyprock, future cracking is guaranteed where the two differing materials join.

If it is a timber floor, do you have a footing under the proposed wall (or is it on a slab)?

If you use hebel, the wall thickness may be slightly thinner than the existing brickwork. Either brick or hebel will do the job (generally) but it will depend upon what is on the other side of the wall eg: machinery room/printing press etc. If it is just domestic, should not be an issue with noise transmission.
