How to buy a property in the US without paying for it!

Interesting story here about a man who filed a "quiet title" with a local court that allowed him to take over a house that had been "abandoned".

And then the family that owned it came home to find this man had thrown out their possessions and was living in it. The kicker is he expects to get the house for nothing.

Could be an easy way to get into the US property market without paying for it!

Somehow I don't think he's going to win this one. Someone taking an extended leave from their property doesn't mean it's abandoned. People do take vacations.

It's also the US. Lots of gun owners there. Karma in the form of a pissed off former home owner will likely catch up with him if he does win.

What a vague (and useless) article!

How long was that (and the other 11) properties vacant for? I thought in Australia it has to be vacant/abandoned for 7 years before it can be claimed by squatters who need to have proven that they were making use of the space for a period of that time?
