Kitchens in Brisbane - joinery, cabinet makers etc

Hi there
did a search and the last recommendations were back in 2004.

Can anyone recommend a kitchen joinery/ cabinet maker etc to do a full renovation of an old 70's style kitchen.

I note that the kitchen is chipboard and is water damaged and has to be replaced.

thanks in anticipation of your replies

I also would like to find a good kitchen/cabinet maker in Brisbane. The one we have used for 20 years recently retired and I would like to move my PPOR kitchen into an IP and have a new one made.

I want quality but I don't want to pay for a specialist kitchen maker who probably charges more than necessary to cover their TV advertising.

A small well regarding local chap (just like the chap who retired) would be fantastic.

Anyone???

I used and would highly recommend Kitchens by Kathie in Virginia for my PPOR. It's a real "Mom and Pop" (well, just Mom these days, Frank's retired I believe) operation. You'll deal with Kathie herself and she's absolutely lovely, thoroughly professional, and really good at suggesting ways to save without compromising the look. They have a small operation in a functional but not flash industrial shed, and long-term employees. They'll take good care of you.

Design

Hi All,

We have a large space for our kitchen in our PPOR (mostly blank space at the moment), and we probably need assistance in the actual design / positioning of the cabinetry. Is this a service that is offering by the likes of KBK referenced above?

Thanks,
Horizon

Yes, KBK certainly design kitchens, and Kathie has won awards for her kitchen designs over the years. I designed my own kitchen because I mostly kept the existing frames and just put on all new doors, plus added an island, but Kathie had some great suggestions to tweak my design.

Let's see, there were two main things we did:

1) Refurbish existing cabinets

* new laminate benchtop, about 8m total
* 12 new laminated doors plus all hinges and handles
* stainless-steel look laminate panels for splashbacks and to cover all the kickboards (I'm rapt with these)

2) New island bench

* three new extra-wide cabinets (equivalent to about 4 standard cabinets), each with three wide drawers
* laminate benchtop extending beyond the three units to create a seating area, and stainless steel leg to support the extension
* stainless-steel look laminate panels for kickboards

We got estimates from 2 of the big national companies, which were about $16 and $18K, but that admittedly included installation. We paid KBK about $5.5K, and a handyman about $2K to install.

We have used A & T Cabinets in Loganholme for our kitchens. They have been comparatively good pricewise and the quality has been excellent. Our kitchens ranged from an upmarket one in our PPOR to a small cottage style. Alex and Tina are lovely; I guess it's fair to say that Alex is hot too :).
