Michael Leunig on Liberal government

Not me, it's Hotrod.

But I do wish I could pay $100k in tax that's for sure.

But I'd be still angry about any abuse of it.

Wouldnt you datto...?

Second thoughts, I take that back because you dont obviously pay much in tax ?
So what do you do for a crust?

Yeah my mistake. I fixed that up now. Sorry about that chief - long day at work!

Sure I'd love to earn that sort of money! I wouldn't care less how the govt spent it (if I was pulling in half mil per annum).

You're right, I don't pay much tax and no I cannot tell you what I do for a crust because blah bla blah;)

Nothing sinister Mr CJ. Just tongue in cheek really. Should have put a :D in that post. But 100K in tax, wow, I wouldn't mind earning the kind of money that lead to that.

Put your neck on the line, start up a successful small biz and you can earn that money and more. :)

Thanks.

I collect rent also but engineering....nah, I mean great job but...nah, I mean I wish I could ...but nah. I have to stick to what I'm doing.

Which is..?

Put it this way, if I was earning big dollars I'd gladly say what I do.

You've read my posts, what sort of job and money springs to mind? Yeah, I'm lucky to be on someone's payroll and I'm eternally grateful for that.

I deserve to be on at least 200K but I'm only on chicken feed.

When I'm on big bucks you will be the first to know what I do.

ring ring...

"Hello, yes this is datto's porn line, yes I'm only wearing........" lol.

I'm sure that your excerpt will have the handwringers jumping up and down, and shouting "Go you good thing!"

However, the whole excerpt is full of holes, but I've picked out one just for fun:

You don't need to torture people with guns when you can do so by restricting our access to treatment and medicine and forcing us to work in spite of our chronic pain, illnesses and disability.

Just so you know to validate this post; I'm a standard 53 year old male, reasonably healthy - a bit of arthritis in my right thumb but otherwise not bad, and reasonably successful in my life, very lower middle class upbringing, have had a number of operations due to accidents etc over my life (two hernias and an appendix to name a few), never been rich and am now probably classed as middle class with wife and 3 kids - the two oldest boys have already been in hospital for a variety of things - one is 12 the other almost 5...

In my whole life, I have never, ever had a situation where I could not get medical help (waiting in the GP's "waiting" room for an hour for an "appointment" would be the one standout.:rolleyes:)

None of my family have ever, ever been denied medical treatment yet that I can remember.

I forgot to add...we also have private health care, these days, but for much of my life I never did.....

Since I can remember; anyone who does not have private health care will still be seen in emergency cases.

If your issue is elective, or not life threatening; you wait - just like all the other folks who have no private health care.

This has been the case for my whole life, and for my whole life I can remember exactly these types of handwrings as you mentioned above..

Nothing new here folks; move on.

The solution is there; get private health care (I struggle to afford it like most folks, but still have it)...or don't have private health care and take your chances.

We all have choices.

Finally; as you know; my stance is against the rorters and cheats etc - the leaners and so on...two of my mechanics have healthcare cards.

One is 42 years old, one is 23 years old. Both can - and do - a full days work with no physical side effects that I have ever seen, other than the usual skinned knuckles and tiredness - just like me.

Tell me that's right?

You're misunderstanding what I mean by "privilege" in this context.

Let's say two 15 yo boys both want to be pro basketballers. Neither of them are any good at basketball yet. One is 6'8", and the other is 5'8". They both work really hard at their skills, practice a lot, but the one who's 6'8" has an inherent advantage.

Likewise, by being a white, straight, Australian-born, mentally healthy, male, our society is structured for you to succeed; it's much harder for those who don't share all those privileges. You're 6'8"!

You don't need to feel guilty or defensive about that, nor does it detract from the merit of your success. One still has to put in the work to succeed, even when they're privileged.

But it seems that the very least one with privilege can do for those who don't share their privileges is not ridicule and punish them for being so short.
totally disagree and that's a terrible analogy.

I have met many folks who were five-foot-eight as you call it who have creamed the whole comp, while the six-foot-eight dude has fallen back to the bench.

My previous life in golf is a great example; I met loads and loads of kids/adults with loads of talent, and loads with none.

Often, the one with no talent, but was prepared to et off their @rse and work hard to succeed; did. A lot of the talented folk who thought it would get handed to them on plate never got anywhere....found excuses, lazy, etc.

Everyone can succeed, and those who don't; always have a ready excuse - in my experience.

Every week on the teev we see another example of someone who should be dead/in a wheelchair/are in a wheelchair/you name it...out there doin' it., and Odin' it well.

This Country is fostering a future of leaners from one generation to the next, and too many folks are there to go "poor you".
