Mould removal specialist

Hi guys. Ive got mould issues with my property and would like to get it fixed ASAP. The story goes like this...

1) mould growing on bedroom and living room
2) mould being removed and cleaned by handyman as agent says hes good and qualified for the job (mistake)
3) roofing professional added whirly birds to bedroom and living room each.
4) mould reappearing
5) got mould removal specialist BUT ONLY to clean the mould then will give a report on why he/she thinks the reason its mouldy.

i thought mould removal specialist actually find and fix the problem instead of only finding it. Can any one help? its been on going for a few months now and the tenant is not happy (understandably).

Thanks!

are they using a gas heater?

Is the mould on the roofs or bottom of walls?

Is the bedroom next to living room?

cheers

Hey Ace.

I dont think they are using gas heater. The moulds are all on the roof. Bedroom is not close to the living room about 10 steps away? this is an older house with floorboards.

best to to make sure they are not using a gas heater.
Moisture causes mould. Main causes would be gas heater, leaking external roof causing damp roofs. these occur in winter. Or showering with the door open and no fan or vent if these rooms were close but then i would expect bathroom to be mouldy on roof.

A dehumidifier may help.

cheers

I had a problem with a bathroom in IP. I scrubbed with Bleach. Repainted room with an anti mould liquid from Bunnings added to the paint. Put sec screen in and ask tenants to leave open a bit all year through. I haven't had another problem. I did read that some houses have mould issues that always come back. There's a lot about it on the Internet.

Trees near windows?
Hard problem to shake- need plenty of airflow.
Pay extra for that additive to add to paint to kill the mould. Prep thoroughly before applying. Oil of cloves is supposed to kill the spores.

thanks for all the feedback guys... they do have a dehumidifier for the room... but still have the mould...

so im just wondering if you guys have any recommendation for mould removal specialist that inspect and fix the mould? Cause the one i have will only inspect it and write a report. Its costly as well! :(

Oh. When I saw "mould removal" I had something else in mind.

Our PPOR has some south facing rooms that get mould quiet bad, especially the bathroom. I painted the ceiling with Dulux wash and wear that has a 7 year mould guarantee, that was 2 years ago and havent seen any mould on the ceiling since, we tried mould addative when we painted another room a few years before but it was unsuccesful, the Dulux stuff is a bit pricy but worth it IMHO.

Don't use bleach to clean it up, it just hides the mould.

Have a good read of this

Interesting they say not to use bleach, I thought I got my info from same department about 8 years ago!

I hope you get it sorted soon! I was working in an office last year that had lots of leaks, mouldy carpet, and black mould on cornices. I would get extremely ill half an hour after vacuuming. I just got allergy tested and I'm allergic to it. Nasty stuff!

Thanks Scott for that newsletter. I find it odd that the place was fine when i lived in it for a short while and then all of the sudden theres mould... i will need to speak to the agent about it...

Thanks Xjas but i cant be in person to fix it and doubt the tenant would want to paint...

Thanks for the info simtr!

The property I had mould problems with when tenanted, I had previously lived in for years also without any problems. If tenants aren't using ventilation fans or ventilating property it is probably the cause. In wa it's tenants responsibility to ventilate property to avoid mould. Are they doing this?

I had a mould problem in my investment property. Washed every wall and ceiling down with pool chlorine and removed all the carpets.

Then re-painted using mould resistant paint.

Worked a treat, its been over 3 years and mould hasn't returned.

judging from the response of most people... hiring the mould removal specialist should do it since painting fixes it.
