Proposed Shopping Center close to home - Good or Bad?

A proposed shopping center comprising of 2 supermarkets, a medical center some specialty retail and apartments is planned for 2 streets away from where I live.

Just wondering from peoples experience do you think it would be beneficial to have a shopping hub this close? and good for property prices in the area or would it be more a disadvantage with additional traffic, shopping trolleys left in the street? etc

Presently the site is a disused warehouse building so we see it as a bit of a plus the site will be used as something and not left empty and vandalised.

Yes, great news. It's not the new Coles flagged for Gaffney St is it? I was just reading that article earlier.

We think it is a good thing as currently we need to drive to either Williamstown or Yarraville for a supermarket. But a number of other residents think it will be bad for the area and will kill off the small shopping strip.

Two streets away is perfect. You can tell people you were very clever buying the place.
Yes, it will kill the local shopping strip - or at least mortally wound it. Sometimes local strips do make a comeback, though.

Yes, those sorts of amenities are great selling points so if you end up hating living so close to a shopping centre, selling will be easier!
