Reno shops open late in Melbourne?? (Besides Bunnings)

Hi all,

We've found our fist major challenge! Everythings always closed when we need it! :(

Can anyone recommend stores (tiles, kitchens, bathrooms, electrical, flooring - anything that has to do with a reno!!) open later than 5:30pm weekdays in Melbourne?

I'm spoiled being from the USA I think!

Geoff works Saturdays as well which doesn't help! We'd love to be able to scout some places out after work but are struggling to find anywhere besides Bunnings which is open past 5pm.

Thanks for the help!

Cheers,
Jen

Hi Jen...I forgot I've been spoiled in Cairns. Most shops are open till 6:00 pm, later on Fri nites, plus all day Saturday and Sunday due to the town being available for tourists. Lucky for the residents!

We did have a 24-hour supermarket...I thought I was back in LA heaven, but the council deemed it not "tourist", so it had to return to normal hours...ie now closes at 9:00 pm. :D

Hi Jen,

What is wrong with Bunnings? If there is nothing else open, that may be your only option.

Maybe also try Ebay and the Trading Post, along with auction warehouses.

Nothing at all! I'm sure that will be our main supply. But we'd like to check out other places to make some comparisons and look at what other options are there - just finding it difficult with the non-worker friendly open hours  .

Bunnings prices are pretty good and the fact that they're open after hours is great - no queues and plenty of people to help find things.
I did, however, find myself there at 8pm one Friday night, which even I thought was a bit tragic - don't tell anyone. Still, it's great when there is something you need to do on Saturday being able to get everything you need the night before.

bathroom, laundry, taps, etc

Bourne plumbing (ex budget plumbing) in Dandenong
has reasonable prices and is open Saturday mornings.
You can even view products on the net. www.bournebathrooms.com.au

Auctions may be a possiblity for kitchen, however we found Bunnings excellent, we did however source benchtops elsewhere from Jason Blue in Scoresby. I pretty sure they are only business hours though.
However if you can state the choice of colour/texture and size over the phone and fax the details you can get them to deliver.

Renovating.com.au can be a great resource to find numbers and details of companies around and what they do. It won’t help you with opening times, but some of the businesses do have websites and at least you can ring and ask them when they are open. :)

Gee, seems like an odd request...

Ive renovated a whole house basically purchasing almost everything from Bunnings. Its close, they have everything and are typically the cheapest.

don't forget tradeconnect.com.au..... mainly sydney-centric but good prices.

As RJ said Bunnings really do have everything you need except specialised bathroom and kitchen stuff

Oops! Should have titled my thread better - I only said besides Bunnings because I already know they are open til 9pm :D

Thanks for all the sites - will check them out. Am already getting quite sucked into ebay and tradingpost.com.au!
