What do we think guys?

Just finished watching the presidential debate. Quite interesting, a lot of fluff.

Romney was quite consistent and strong in getting in his point across, whilst Obama seemed, for the lack of a better word, tired.

Has anyone else seen the debate?

Edit:

FUBAR'd the poll. Mods? :)

Nothing new, maybe they need this gentleman to get them into the hot seat..

Uh oh. In my defense it's been a loooooooonng day.

I can't seem to find a way to edit the poll...

I know, my day still going after a 4:40 wake up to go running! I did however have a 15min catnap sitting at my desk at lunchtime! :)

pinkboy!

The debates are a total waste of time IMO.

I mean; you are watching two guys who know they are being watched by millions of people, and they know that a chunk of what they say is going to influence voters.

They are only going to say what is likely to:

a) win votes,
b) denigrate either subliminally or directly; their opponent (to win votes),
c) make them look good.

Will they ever say the hard truths that will describe what is needed for the Country in the shorter and longer term, and which will put people offside because they don't like to hear the brutal truth?

No.

I mean; MR has already sort of said this a few weeks ago when he made the statement that a large number of folk need to get off their behinds and get to work, and this hurt him a good deal, apparently.

Sadly, the whole of the Congress is made up of folk who will happily be romanced by the Uber-corporate world of Pharmaceuticals and health insurance, as well as others.

They have lots and lots and lots of money with which to "help" the Congress members to make decisions.....

Here's an interesting question: why has the minimum wage remained so lo for so many decades over there?

To "lose" the first debate is a cunning plan by Obama . Romney will get over confident then slip up when Obama comes out firing in the last debate, the one people will remember most.

I'm an Obama fan; really like the guy, but I really can't recall much being said by him - since the first Election campaign to now, that was much other than "concept" inspirational stuff....the stuff which is designed to rally the troops into action to pull the Country out of the swill.

But nothing has changed since then; health care has not improved, the war is still going on and costing trillions, their economy is in freefall, etc.

He is hamstrung by the boys' club.

I feel sorry for any US President, and wouldn't want to be one; can only ever be toothless tigers.

Empty rhetoric from a US president does not go unnoticed by the American people. After a while the feel-good factor of voting in a black President has to give way to what his policies and performances are. He has failed on both fronts.

On balance I prefer Obama.

I think the tea party movement, whilst appealing to the more right wing of the republican party, disenfranchises a lot of moderate voters who would other wise vote republican.

I see voter turnout being a lot lower than in 08.

.

What about off balance?

Since when has Obama balanced anything since taking office?

All promises and concept, no action.

Bring in the businessman and get some debt paid off.

Romney was hurt in the polls because he spoke the truth about getting off bums and having a go.

Politician in over promises under delivers shock.

The US economy is doing better (30% growth in private employment for one) than the end of the Bush administration.

What you seem to forget is that it was a rather toxic situation to inherit. I fail to see how someone can be expected to retain the levels of economic growth where seen previously given the very poor economic situation, created in part by certain groups utilizing their connections with the White House for their own advantage.

It is interesting to see that Romney supports a medical system that actually costs the nation far more than the evil "socialist" proposal from Obama. And that Romney actually previously supported a similar proposal.

Of course, Obama has a lot of faults and issues as well. Hence why I said, on balance.

You could take that out of Wayne Swan's mouth.

Referring to 47% of Americans as good for nothing parasites is a very subjective 'truth', especially when coming from a man who pays less than 15% tax.

Meanwhile, Obama seems to have completely given up on his job:

“I think that I’ve learned some lessons over the last four years and the most important lesson I’ve learned is that you can’t change Washington from the inside,” Obama said, appearing to admit his inability to fully deliver on one of the driving themes of his 2008 campaign. “You can only change it from the outside. That’s how I got elected. And that’s how the big accomplishments like health care got done.”

If he can't change anything why bother running for another term?

This is the race for the most important position on the entire planet and out of 7 billion+ people these two are the best options?

By the way, I find it amusing that we're not allowed to discuss Australian politics but we are allowed to discuss American politics.
