squared, cubed??

This is probably a really dumb question...

When someone says they live in a house that is "12 squares", what the hell does that mean?!!

I hope it isn't metres^2.

Thanks, Tony

A "square" is about 9.28 sqm. So if a house is 12 squares, its about 110 sqm in size.

Its called a "square" because its 100sq feet.

Jamie.

The twit trying to pressure me to buy floor coverings for a 54sqm unit didn't get that. He was telling me 54sqm was very big. Bigger than his whole house! You sure mate? I kept saying 54sqm not 'fifty squares'. NOW I understand why the urgency to get the sale.... ha he would have gotten a shock! However, I wouldn't even consider the sale on principle because he told us we had to decicde immediately and no we couldn't go for a walk and discuss. what?

<screeching brakes> Any salesman who doesn't want a purchaser to have thinking time is suspect - gut instinct kicks in and I refuse. Just me tho'

Jamie is correct , 40 Squares is alot more than 40 square metres. I know everyone has a differenet idea of size but 40 squares is about the size of a medium sized average house. 60 Squares is a large house and anything 80 squares + is a mansion.

You must live in a pretty big house, Young Gun. I'd consider anything above 20 squares a reasonable house.

5 squares is a studio, and most 3 bedroom townhouses are only about 10, 12 squares. My parent's place is a 5 bedroom house and it's maybe 45 squares over 2 floors.

I guess I might have over exgerated a little bit but most of the houses around where I live Castle hill , WPH out in the suburbs are fairly large. So I guess what I call a large house is probally a bit bigger than what other people think is large dunno , depends on your perspective.

Let's make it easy ....

Thanks, Jamie,

I reckon you're on the money. But, as a simple bloke, I endeavour to go "close enough", yet make things easy to remember.

So if a house is 12 squares, its about 110 sqm in size
To me, that means that a square is roughly 10sq metres (slightly larger, but near enough).

So, as I don't carry a calculator everywhere, a 20 square house is ~200 sq metres. Near enough?

Close enough for me - hope it helps others too,

Regards,

1 inch = 0.0254m

1 sq. foot (ft2)
= 12in*12in
= [12in * 0.0254m/in] * [12in * 0.0254m/in]
= 0.0929m2

1 square = 100 sq feet = 9.29m2

1 acre = 4840 sq yards = 4046.86 sq metres
1 acre = 0.404686ha
1 acre = 160 perches
1 perch = 25.2929m2

1 hectare= 2.471 acres
1 hectare= 100 * 100 metres = 10,000 sq metres

I consider a modest 4/2/2 contemporary house (including 40 m2 garage) to be around 25 squares = 232 Sq metres = approx 20*12 sq metres

I live in Cherrybrook to be specific but a fair few of my mates live in WPH and live in pretty big places. $3.2m is the record for WPH and probally the Hills Area set by Louis Carr. I still live at home but I couldnt see myself living that far out from the city when im older..

I heard residex is picking WPH to improve by 10% this year??

WPH and Castle Hill havent done that badly in the post property boom. They have stayed stable. I think their is still alot of demand for the larger sized houses in these areas and interest rate increases do not affect more expensive suburbs as a whole. In some of the more expensive areas their has been a soft landing I think thats what has happend in WPH. Also the growth of Castle Towers has done a fair bit to bolster growth in the hills.
