White Paint Over other Colour

Hey All

Doing a little home reno updating a powder room in our home.

Going to paint it a Dulux vivid white and wondering how many coats it should take. The base is a China white (so a vivid white base colour).

Thinking probably three coats? That sound about right?

Out of interest, what base colour are the Deep and Ultra Deep Dulux bases?

Three coats should be plenty.

Is the current colour china white? Or is that what you are using as your base coat? If so, what colour is it at the moment?

You could probably even get away with 2 coats if it's a pale colour already.

No argument with the previous posts, 2 coats should be sufficient to cover it.

Whilst at Uni I worked in a Bunnings paint department. Deep and Ultra Deep bases are the base paint used for dark and darker colours. They look a little "off white" if applied directly onto a surface, but the tints have a stronger reaction to make darker and deeper colours.

The forumlas for different colours are very specific, you should not use a different base and try to predict what sort of colour you'll get. I used to play a game with some customers of 'guess the tint' for the colour being mixed, which they invariably got wrong.
