2013 Election: Senate Vote

Trying to figure out who to vote for in the senate?

Google how voting in the senate differs from voting for the house of representatives.

I was going to vote for the LDP in the senate but they stuffed up in Vic and failed to get their electoral form in on time. So my vote will be going elsewhere.

My next preference would have been Clive Palmers Palmer United Party. But I have just checked the preference flow, and they have done a deal with the Greens (whaaaat), where this is real risk that a vote for Palmer United Party in Victoria will flow back to the Greens.

There is no way I am taking that chance.

Looks like I will end up voting Libs in both houses.

Refer to the following link if you want an idea of how the preference votes flow for the senate:

Wow! Can't believe Clive would do that?

Especially coming from the right side originally and being a miner?

See ya's.

Gotta have a lot of faith in a party that can't even manage to get its candidates enrolled for the election:eek::eek:

According to their website(LDP) you can vote LDP in Vic, but below the line.
Will be making up my own senate preferences. LNP in Lower House and LDP in Upper, looks like I'll be numbering boxes for a while on election day.

because of the way senate seats work, it probably won't make a hoot of difference if I vote liberal in the senate.

Some interesting links:
http://www.abc.net.au/news/federal-election-2013/guide/svic/

Which shows historical figures, notice the rise in both the greens and 'other' parties over the last decade.

Next look at
http://www.abc.net.au/news/federal-election-2013/senate-calculator/

This is a nifty little 'what if' calculate by Anthony Green. You can play around with different parties primary vote in the senate and then see how it all gets shifted around.

The key point is that 477,000 'votes' is required for a senate seat in Victoria.

So you can play around with the different parties, and then see the effect on the final senate composition (accuracy of this I don't know, Anthony Green has done the calculations based on the lodgement of party preferences).

The party is definitely want out are the Greens, much better labour than the greens. My second preference after libs would be family first, which seems to hit a chance at the last senate seat under quite a few scenarios.

Anyway for those of us that never really thought of how the senate is calculated it makes for interesting analysis.

a party that is not even organised sufficiently to get their lodgements in on time, is one that doesn't deserve my vote. How much more complicated will running Australia be.

At least the LDP have above the line voting in NSW, can't say i like their preferencing though so might do a below the line vote. Being number 1 on the ticket hopefully they get a few donkey votes.

Do your own preferences.

Man - that was hard enough on the lower house ballot paper (postal vote) with only 8 candidates.

First choice - easy - second choice - well, okay - third choice - ummmmmm - and from there I was lost - last choice was a toss up between Fred Nile and the Wikileaks Party

Fred Niles always goes at 69 ;)
