Accountant Recommendations - Sydney

Try Terry at Prime Tax in Bondi Junction, really nice guy and a great accountant. He will also be happy to show you his amazing marine museum at the back of his office.

Thank you very much for the replies guys.

Happy to be of help if I may. I'm based in Lindfield (north shore) and happy to help virtually if more practical.

Thanks Jenna, I will PM you.

That's an enticing proposition! Is the marine museum his USP? :)

What do you want from them and where in sydney?

I would need one sitting with them to get generic best practices advice on managing my accounts and bookkeeping and I would want them to manage my tax. I have a small portfolio yet so nothing complicated. In inner-west or western Sydney would be preferable but I can travel anywhere in Sydney for a sitting or two, and after that email and phone calls would suffice IMO. So more important than location, is the willingness of the person to answer all my boring stupid questions. :p

Two recommendations for Nick! Is he expensive? I'm willing to pay for quality but I would also look for value. It seems so hard to choose an accountant. The only way to find out how they are is to try them or go on recommendations!

Hi - i have to say this year I have met a great one - Danny from AMCO. He has investment properties himself, runs this firm, answers all of my very dumb questions via email or phone ( after a free one on one visit to see if we are on the same wavelentgh etc ), and did this years returns, as well as back adjusted previous claims with minimum of fuss and cost.

His details from his email signature.

Thanks ije and BV. I guess I'm now spoilt for choice.

One stupid question: How easy or difficult have you found to change an accountant? Considering that the current one might not mention or explain everything that they are doing on your tax and why they are doing it? There may be some things that one isn't aware of unless one is very accounts savvy. Is this something you can relate to or am I being too much of a laggard in account affairs or have baseless concerns?

Yes a lot of choice and good firms too so shop around.
Don't you keep receipts and your old tax returns?
I think it wouldn't be hard to change.
If you don't have depreciation schedules then the depreciation amounts of appliances and other items need to be worked out but if you have kept records it shouldn't be an issue. It is also possible that your old accountant will pass on such info on request. IMO it would be unprofessional not to.

Accountant that's a property investor too!

Hi Everyone,

I am looking to change my accountant. Can someone recommend a good property tax account in Sydney?

Cheers.

I know this man is an expert at property as he invests himself (5 years ago he had at least 20 now probably lots more). He's not our accountant but he specialises mainly in property so just check him out. He has various offices too. He has helped us with our investment structure though at one stage.

Just before you decide on one, ask them all the releveant questions:
- Have they been investing themselves? How long? What can they provide that others cannot, etc.....

Good luck otherwise.....

I have receipts and tax returns and also depreciation schedule. But I'm not sure which method of depreciation was used in my past returns. But I guess it wouldn't be hard to work out.
